    WIND FACTS     OUR CAPABILITIES     BENEFITS

Wind energy is the future! The installed capacity now exceeds 25,300 megawatts, and the country is on track to meet the ambitious goal of receiving 20% of our energy needs from wind by 2030. Over 7 million households receive all their power needs from wind and more than $17 billion is now invested in this business. Yet, one major obstacle looms over the industry–lack of transmission capacity. Even with tax breaks and government support, wind energy must “tie in” to the electric grid. Wind resources are not always convenient to the power grid. This is where we can help.

Wood poles are the most economical method of building lines from the wind farm to the nearest grid. And when they’re pressure treated by one of the most experienced treaters, they are also a long lasting solution. Our inventory of large transmission poles is by far the largest in the industry. Douglas fir stocks of large poles are maintained at several sites and are available for immediate shipment to our plants. Western Red Cedar and Southern Pine are also in stock. Then there’s lead time. Another area where choosing an experienced company pays off. Because McFarland Cascade has six pressure treating plants to choose from, we get it done on time. And we deliver industry-leading standards for quality, custom fabrication to your exact specifications, all with a standing commitment to meet your needs as a customer.

Renewable energy resources, like wind, naturally partner with McFarland Cascade wood poles. Our products are completely renewable (we use no “old growth” trees for poles). Far less energy is used to make a wood pole than concrete or steel poles. Wood is also a natural “carbon bank” too, as carbon is stored for the life of the pole. Toss in EPA approved preservatives and our wood poles are the system of choice for overhead lines. Once installed, they offer many years of service along with strong environmental contributions.
